Pain resulting from HS can significantly affect quality of life. Be honest with your dermatologist about any pain you are experiencing and the impact it is having on your life.6

•  Wear loose-fitting clothing made from a natural material7

•  Reduce friction by using an electric trimmer to closely trim hair, rather than shaving

•  Ask your dermatologist whether a warm compress may help to treat any pain

•  Read more about coping with pain in our “Maintaining a Healthy Mind” section

•  If you have a painful flare up, talk to your dermatologist who will be able to recommend treatment based on your disease stage and refer you to a specialist5
